Even as a small town we have a lot to offer here in Rosman. We are going threw some growing pains at the moment, a new water treatment plant is almost online, developers building, and most importantly prices are going up. There is a growing concern that families that have lived in the area for generations, soon won't be able to afford to live here. Affordable housing seems to be a distant thought on any ones mind.
Affordable Housing is a serious issue everywhere in the US.
The lack of affordable housing pushes the work force out of a area, while brings in people from areas where the cost of living is higher. Which is great for the wealthy retired workers that just sold their home in the city, but effectively keeps the hard working people in Transylvania county from getting ahead.
Inclusionary zoning, and land banking on a county and city level, are two of the best ways to maintain affordable housing. State and Federal tax incentives, along with low cost mortgages could possibly help.
